Just as we promised
When it comes to Haiti there are two resources that we look to for good information and a third resource that we look to from a news perspective. We hate to write one long post so we are going to split the resources into groups for you. There are some articles and also a couple video's. One of us would rather watch a video then read an article so we included a little of both.
Here is a good article from the Miami Herald that covers small clips from a personal perspective over the last year in case you missed anything.
Haiti suffers year of crisis with nobody in charge - Health AP - MiamiHerald.com
PBS has a couple shows this week that are featuring Haiti. We have not personally watched this one but we heard from a friend that it is good and we have it DVR'd so we will be watching it soon.

1 Year Anniversary
It has been so long since we posted and so much we would like to say. I must confess. I need to organize my thoughts better.
We have seen and read so many interesting articles lately as the one year anniversary of the earthquake approaches. My goal is to sort through them all and add them later today. I only write now incase someone is looking to tell you to tune in later for more but in the mean time pray for the Haitian's today!! Pray without ceasing. Their hearts will be heavy today no doubt.
We have a child that has experienced trama of a different sort and we can tell you from personal experience that the emotions come sometimes without warning and behaviors follow that is not necessarily in thier nature to do. Pray for peace in their soul. Pray for healing...physical, emotional, and spiritual. Pray that everyday they will continue to dig their way out! Pray as God wills and leads. We look forward to sharing later today.

Buckets of Hope Update - April 26
From Disaster Relief:
Terry Ryan, associate disaster relief director at the Florida Baptist Convention, reports that 14 shipping containers of buckets have made it to ports in Haiti. Haitian pastors and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief team members are eagerly awaiting word of their passage through customs. These 14 containers hold 20,508 Buckets of Hope filled with enough food to feed over 200,000 Haitians for a week.
They estimate over 150,000 buckets were collected all together so that is a lot more containers waiting to go down. Pray that they clear customs quickly so that the food can get out to the people. Sometimes in Haiti containers can get stuck in customs for months on end. The Southern Baptist Disaster Relief specifically packed everything as uniformly as possible in hopes to bypass some of this process. God is good and has used the Buckets to touch so many people here in the US. We pray they will soon be touching people in Haiti as well.

From the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief
Haiti Earthquake
After three months and nearly 700 volunteers, there is still much to do in Haiti. Teams are continuing to work with local Haitian pastors and churches to respond to the great needs of their communities. Southern Baptists are helping churches clear the piles of debris that once were church buildings. This is the first step in bringing a sense of hope to devastated communities. The lack of buildings has not deterred the Haitians from worship and proclaiming the gospel. They have continued to meet, holding their services outdoors. Exuberant joy marks the worship of the Haitian church. Where one might expect an absence of hope and joy, the Haitians sing songs of praise. What a wonderful sound to hear these Christian brothers and sisters sing praises in spite of their great sorrow. They know and exhibit the difference between happiness and the joy that is ours in Christ Jesus.
Southern Baptists can see the great potential for eternal change in Haiti. Out of the rubble that lines the streets, a new Haiti will emerge. We are praying to that end, that Christ, through the work of the Holy Spirit will make an eternal difference in Haiti. What about you? Have you waned in your petitions for Haiti? Why not take some time today and pray for these people? It will make all the difference.
Without leaving your chair you can play a vital role in the work God is doing in Haiti. Tens of thousands are coming to Christ. Voodoo priests have been won to the Lord and are now witnessing to others. Take 10 minutes and pray......

Unimaginable
We watched a show on PBS last night. We are speechless as to what we saw. Unimaginable what the Haitian people suffered two months ago, completely unimaginable, amputations without medication and only Motrin to control the pain afterwords (can you imagine?). Death upon death upon death. We will warn you the video is very graphic. At one point Margie almost had to leave the room.
Sitting here in our comfortable home with everything we need and most of what we want it is hard to imagine that people a short hour and a half flight from the US (literally our neighbors) are living like this and will continue to live like this for several months to come if not years. And to top it all off in a way the crisis is just beginning...rainy season is coming and there is still not enough tents or food. Honestly we are not sure the tents will keep the rain out and people dry, the death toll will continue to rise and not just the death but the suffering.
Life was hard before the earthquake for most Haitians now in our eyes it seems impossible. Yet, they are resealient. They are an unbelievably strong people, with an unbelievably strong faith. Oh, the lessons we could learn from them if we would only take the time to look. We are so blessed to be able to call them part of our family. Please take the time to watch. It is long, about an hour. Most of all don't stop praying for Haiti.
We get updates from the SBC and there are lives being saved as never before. We are gaining brothers and sisters by the thousands. Todd about a year or so ago said he felt God was doing a work in Haiti...a salvation work. We both felt God saying NOW is the time. It is more than evident now.
I can't get the video to link. Here is the web address: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/haiti/view/

Buckets of Hope Update
The first set of buckets are on there way across the water to Haiti. Pray they make it through customs with no problem and to the people in need. The SBC has collected over 136,000 buckets and they have only counted a few states in that total. We look forward to hearing the final count.

Buckets of Hope Update
Some really exciting things have been going on in regards to the Buckets of Hope for Haiti.
First, I(Margie) was shopping at Fred Meyer and they had flour on sale (for the same price as Walmart in the T/C) so I was stocking up for the buckets. Now you need to understand that when we go shopping I usually have the two younger ones in tow and at Fred Meyer especially it seems all the older people like to stop and engage them. My little ones are very active, in a good way generally, and people really enjoy watching them. Back to the story...this lady stops and says something to the kids and then looks in my cart and says, "Wow!! It looks like someone is going to be doing some baking." I explained to her quickly that we were packing buckets of food to send to Haiti and that they would include flour, rice, beans, peanut butter, oil, etc. She was very intrigued and asked "Can I help?" I, of course, said, "Sure! We would love for you to help." She reached into her pocket, pulled out some cash, handed it to me and said "God bless you!" I was in shock and thinking, "No, God bless you!" A complete stranger who I have never seen and will probably never see again, living on a fixed income, gave me cash for Haiti. God is so AWESOME!!! God is so alive!!!
Second God thing that happened this week or should I say continues to happen. :) Todd brought the idea of participating with the Southern Baptists in the Buckets of Hope to our church as a quick announcement on Sunday morning. We set out a bucket on a table in the foyer for people to see what all the contents were. We had overwhelming support from the church body for them. We had people even last night (Wednesday) wanting to purchase some or some more. Here is the VERY cool part. Our average attendance at church is down to around 100 people (God is active though and doing some amazing things, if this were a personal blog I would share). We have around 100 people maybe a little more coming to church, including babies, this is people not families. We have over 20 buckets that people have given us money for. That is 1/5th of our congregation! And we are not done yet. I know of several more that are planning to give on Sunday. 1/5th of our congregation reaching out being God's hands and feet in Haiti. I am so honored to call them my family. We were expecting maybe a dozen buckets purchased. I guess our expectations are a little low :)
I praise God for showing Himself to me this week. I praise God for the SBC and the opportunity to do this (it has greatly impacted my children). I praise God for a church family as well as a biological family that has supported this ministry. God is awesome and worthy of our praise!!!

Buckets of Hope for Haiti
Buckets of Hope for Haiti...what is it?
The Southern Baptist Association in connection with Baptist churches in Haiti are setting out to collect and deliver "Buckets of Hope". Basically they are plain white buckets filled with enough rice, beans, oil, flour, and peanut butter to feed a Haitian family for a week. We picked up the supplies for 6 buckets this week while visiting Margie's parents and put the contents together yesterday. All of the kids exclaimed afterword, "That was so fun.", "Can we do it again?" and "I want to do more...can we do 20?" It was so cool to see the kids being a part of reaching out and it is very cool to be able to reach out in such a tangible way.
For about $40 per bucket we can purchase a bucket, fill it with the required supplies, and send it to Haiti where it will be dispersed by pastors to their community. It will include a message and the knowledge that it is from Christians in America who love them and have prayed for them.
As part of the Missions Team at our church, we presented this today and had an overwhelming response. It is so exciting. We will collect funds for about 2 weeks and then make a trip to purchase all the items. We have discovered that we can fill a bucket for about $10 cheaper per bucket if we travel to Margie's parents town and shop the bigger stores. We also had a church member offer to see about getting his work place to donate the buckets which would leave us with even more money to fill more buckets. We are so proud of our church so readily being Christ's hands and feet.
